'How do we become a positive force of change?'
Binance CEO says this is not just a rhetorical question for the crypto and blockchain industry
Dubai is now a major global crypto hub, and one of the biggest events on its calendar this year is Binance Blockchain Week, with thousands of builders, creators, traders and innovators attending.
Binance CEO Richard Teng kicked off the event telling the audience that we need to "rethink the future".
Building on the year’s theme—Momentum—Teng highlighted the milestones seen in the last 12 months. “We started the year with the Bitcoin ETF being approved in the United States and subsequently around the world, giving this space—the crypto industry, the blockchain industry—the credibility, the recognition that we always deserve.”
He talked of the big institutions now joining the crypto world. “Everybody has a blockchain, crypto agenda on that front, so it's exciting. And these are the momentum that will bring us past challenges and propel us to much greater heights going forward.
“On that I urge all of you to use this opposition opportunity to rethink the future. Rethink the future for crypto, for blockchain, for financial services.”
Indeed, it has been quite a journey for this exciting sector, but the industry has no time to sit back and relax, but needs to carefully think about its future.
“How do we become a positive force of change? If you think through this, it will fork the foundation for our growth and progress to the future, and it will determine how we create a much better, more inclusive financial services industry for the future.”
Teng talked about the challenges the sector has already faced but was confident it can handle more challenges going forward “together with our collective strength, our resilience, our wisdom.”

Joining Teng on the day's second event, The Crypto Radio is ready for panels ranging from Dubai's real estate to TikTok strategies and the next wave of web3 on Solana.
The Momentum theme continues to develop with The Future of Digital Currency (Main Stage at 1.45pm) with Circle CEO, Jeremy Allaire, and Binance's Jessica Walker, as they dicuss CBDCs—central bank digital currencies, which are digital forms of countries' currencies, issued and valued by their central bank—new stablecoin models, and financial inclusion.
Then mix it up a little this afternoon with 2024's Crypto Culture Unleashed and Web3's role in the gaming world, featuring speakers from memecoin company Pepe, cryptocurrency FLOKI, art marketplace Pixels, and blockchain game company Animoca Brands.
