Discipline, exercise, and patience are the ingredients to Henry Batrouni’s success

Spending the working day glued to a computer, experienced crypto trader Henry Batrouni balances this out by flitting from cityscapes to beach locations on a whim.

The modern nomadic lifestyle is tempting in an increasing number of workers across all industries, and the crypto sphere is no exception.

The 28-year-old digital nomad has been trading for five years but only remotely for two. When he got started in 2019, Henry stayed in Cyprus for the first three years before he was lured away by the promise of travel and freedom.

Location, location, location

For the past two years, Henry has enjoyed working from Dubai, Thailand, and Bali, where he finds the culture and community open and welcoming. “A lot of digital nomads are friendly because they all understand each other … they have something in common”.

And he’s not finished yet. Henry has his sights set on South Africa and Mexico for the future. “Mexico is an up and coming, booming country … It is a very diverse place, very cultural and deep.”

As well as the cultural side, Henry is drawn to the opportunities that the North American country holds in real estate and crypto. As someone in the crypto world, it’s important for him to choose his location depending on regulations surrounding cryptocurrencies.

Work-life balance

When he first set off on his adventure, Henry found it hard to achieve a healthy work-life balance. “Sometimes in the beginning of my career, yes, it was hard to switch off, because you have to be all in, understanding the news, the charts, everything that’s popping up,” he says.

Over time, Henry has formed discipline that helps him separate work and play, ensuring he carves out time for friends and relationships. “So, now I don’t struggle as much as I used to”.

By also reminding himself that, “In trading, it’s 10% buying, 10% selling, and 80% patience”, Henry manages to step back from the screen – taking time to make decisions and avoid burn out.

In an emotionally and psychologically demanding career, maintaining mental stability is crucial for making good decisions. Henry prioritises meditation and gym routines that help him maintain a healthy mind in a potentially stressful industry.

Tips for future nomads

Aside, from discipline, exercise, and patience, Henry also recommends anyone planning to follow in his footsteps have six months’ worth of savings to fall back on. “You never know how expensive accommodation can get, food can get, especially with now how the world’s changing, inflation is rising like crazy”.

Though the life of a digital nomad may seem tempting, it’s something that should not be jumped into lightly. If you’re the kind of person who can make friends easily wherever you go and you’re disciplined and good with money, you might find it easier than most.
