From stocks to memecoins: A trader’s leap
Crypto influencer Maria Andersen shares her journey into trading and lessons learned along the way

Maria Andersen didn’t start her career in crypto. Her path to becoming a full-time trader began far from Bitcoin and memecoins. Today, she’s a recognized figure in the crypto community, but her journey is one of exploration, risk, and persistence.
“I had a great experience during COVID,” Andersen told The Crypto Radio. “That’s when I started my YouTube channel, and then I realized the stock market was just too boring. I needed something with more excitement—that’s when I discovered Bitcoin.”
Andersen initially built her platform discussing traditional finance, focusing on stocks. But she soon found herself drawn to the faster pace of crypto trading. Altcoins and memecoins offered the kind of challenge and potential she was looking for.
The ups and downs
As Andersen delved deeper into crypto, she realized it wasn’t always easy. The 2021 bull market brought her significant gains, but it also came with hard lessons.
“Most memecoins will eventually go to zero,” she said. “There’s no actual value behind them; it’s just hype. People need to be really careful, especially if they’re new to crypto.”
Andersen emphasized the importance of being cautious. She advised against investing more than you can afford to lose and stressed taking profits early to avoid unnecessary risks.
“I made most of my money in 2021 on memecoins,” she admitted. “But you have to be really careful. Don’t get too greedy. Take your profits early and get out.”
Lessons learned
Like many traders, Andersen had her share of mistakes. Early investments in pricey NFTs that later dropped in value taught her valuable lessons. Still, these setbacks didn’t discourage her.
“Crypto is all my life now,” she said. “It’s unpredictable, but I love the challenge. Traditional finance just doesn’t appeal to me any more.”
Andersen’s straightforward advice and openness about her experiences resonate with her audience, particularly those just starting out. Her key takeaway? Stay informed, manage risks, and don’t let mistakes define you.
