Nearly half of women interested in crypto, survey finds
A rising number of women are approaching crypto with caution, focusing on education and thoughtful engagement

Is the crypto space really a man's world? Well, the growing interest and presence of women in crypto suggest otherwise.
The male-dominated crypto landscape is seeing a new boom, as women are making their mark in the space. This shift inspires an entirely new wave of innovation and inclusivity—one that positions the wider landscape towards a brighter and more balanced future.
A recent survey by BITmarkets Academy and Ipsos, which surveyed more than 1,550 participants across Europe, reveals that the gender gap in crypto interest is narrowing. Nearly half of the female respondents (46%) expressed interest in digital assets, compared to 54% of men.
The survey also observed a notable trend among women: a preference for education before pursuing any crypto investments. Up to 54% of the women asked said they had opted to undergo professional education and training before starting their trading journey.
According to Ali Daylami, BITmarkets Academy Head of Data Analytics, the future may see a more balanced economic involvement thanks to rising interest among women.
Krypto Granny: Finding her place in crypto at 61
There are already a number of women who have been braving through the crypto landscape—all with their own share of stories to tell.
Anita Kalergis, also known as Krypto Granny, shows how women are making their mark in crypto, even without a technical background. Coming from sales and marketing, she first encountered crypto in 2017 through a colleague who introduced her to smart contracts and Ethereum. Her curiosity outweighed any hesitation, driving her to ask questions and challenge the complexities.
“I truly sometimes made them crazy,” she recalls, persisting with questions like, “Why do we have this? Why would I need it? Or why would I invest in this?” Her journey reflects how women, regardless of background, are pushing into the crypto space with determination and a thirst for understanding.
Then, to better grasp how crypto worked, she had to try it out herself. “I have invested in some, I have lost some money, I made some profit in some,” she said, outlining how her hands-on approach helped her gain a deeper understanding of the technology and the risks involved.
Her hands-on approach—investing, losing, and profiting—helped her better grasp crypto’s potential and risks. Krypto Granny’s story serves as inspiration for anyone, especially women, showing that it’s never too late to enter the space. Her journey also reflects the inclusive nature of the community, open to anyone regardless of age, gender, or background.
Ann Marie McQueen: From beginner to believer
Ann Marie McQueen, a crypto investor with a background in journalism and entrepreneurship, also has a noteworthy journey. She shared with The Crypto Radio that she began her crypto path by investing $100, which she left to sit idle.
After some time, she was surprised to see it grow exponentially, prompting her to question why she hadn't invested more.
In 2020-2021, McQueen received a company bonus, which she decided to use to invest further in crypto.
As she delved deeper into the world of digital assets, McQueen faced several hurdles, one of the biggest being not knowing how to withdraw her funds. “This is how little I knew,” she admitted. “Like, if I have money in that wallet, how do I get it out?”
Over time, McQueen became more intentional about her learning. She started reading materials, watching videos, and, in 2022, focused more on understanding market cycles. “I want to prepare myself, I want to learn about this,” she explained. She also joined an active crypto community, where she learned from others, experienced scams firsthand, and worked with a crypto coach.
It wasn’t an instant revelation, but eventually, things “clicked” for her. At the start, she tried sharing her new knowledge, but found that many people didn’t grasp the significance of crypto. “No one really understood that this is not just some gambling on coins,” she said.
Despite the initial confusion, McQueen believes in the power of crypto, seeing it as more than a trend. “These coins are connected to really innovative projects that are going to change the world.”
The stories of Krypto Granny and Ann Marie McQueen are just a glimpse into the growing presence of women in crypto. Their journeys highlight how women are shaping the future of the industry—one that is increasingly driven by innovation and inclusivity.
