Partner content: What to watch at Bitcoin FilmFest 2025
A preview of standout titles from this year’s selection – from African docs to Spanish comedies

Bitcoin FilmFest (BFF25) returns to Warsaw for its third edition, blending independent movies – from shorts to feature-length productions, commercials to AI-driven experimental forms – with education and entertainment.
In less than two weeks, hundreds of attendees from around the world will gather for three days of screenings, discussions, and thematic workshops in Warsaw, Poland, at the iconic Kinoteka Cinema (PKiN), the same venue that hosted the festival’s first two editions in March 2023 and April 2024.
Although the festival goes well beyond movies, offering dynamic sessions with art and music, let’s focus on its cinematic heart and explore in detail some of the titles that made the BFF25 Official Selection. All projects earn nominations, with the official gala awarding winners Golden Rabbits in four categories: Best Movie, Best Story, Best Short, and Audience Choice.
Feature Films
1. UNBANKABLE (Luke Willms, 2024)
A directorial debut with a captivating soundtrack, vivid aesthetic and a unique spark. Instead of spouting typical, pre-baked narratives, the narrator takes an investigative approach, digging for truth with curiosity and understanding.
Built on diverse perspectives woven into a consistent flow, the plot explores economic innovations, showing their wins and stumbles to challenge Western perspectives with a subtle nudge – almost a warning to pick the right path.
From Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, Ghana, South Africa, Ethiopia, and Zimbabwe, the film blends personal stories, cultural insights, and economic analysis, diving into grassroots financial practices like micro-loans, community banking, and local lending networks, alongside modern innovations like mobile money, digital lending platforms, and Bitcoin.
By leaving questions open, it sparks great discussions, making it a perfect watch for anyone who loves thought-provoking documentaries.
It’s one of this year’s festival titles that doesn’t focus heavily on Bitcoin yet resonates with the audience. This was recognized by Willms, the film’s director, who said publicly: “I’m honored to bring UNBANKABLE to Bitcoin FilmFest – and deeply grateful to the selection committee for choosing a film that doesn’t center on Bitcoin.
"That choice sends a powerful message: bold, unconventional stories have a home here. As a filmmaker, the BFF team makes you feel like you belong – they champion independent voices with conviction, and their passion for overlooked stories is unmistakable.”
2. REVOLUCIÓN BITCOIN (Juan Pablo Mejía, 2024)
Personal tales of hope and change captured in an 80-minute documentary. Forged over three years, smoothly weaving stories from around 40 different voices – both Bitcoiners and curious newcomers alike.
Filmed across Latin America and Spain, it shines with passion and energy, exposing broken systems and redefining financial norms. Its plot dives beyond “digital gold” and price speculation, capturing the human need for stability, prosperity, and personal sovereignty.
As its director said in an interview: “We created REVOLUCIÓN BITCOIN because we felt a deep responsibility to tell the human side of Bitcoin, the stories of people who are using it every day to build, to resist, and to imagine something better.
We hope the film opens minds, sparks curiosity, and inspires viewers to explore Bitcoin not just as technology or investment, but as a powerful tool for freedom and hope.”
Its presence in Warsaw this May marks the first public screening outside the Spanish-speaking world, followed by a one-on-one meeting with the crew behind this production.
3. HOTEL BITCOIN (Manuel Sanabria and Carlos “Pocho” Villaverde, 2024)

A Spanish comedy that proves Hollywood doesn’t own big laughs, mixing riotous humor with sharp narratives. Four friends, 4,000 Bitcoin, and one laptop spark a chaotic adventure of parties, love, crime, and a dash of madness, exploring sound money, value, and relationships through a twisting plot.
The film premiered at the Tarazona and Moncayo Comedy Film Festival in August 2024 and is not yet available outside the Spanish-speaking realm, making its screening at this year’s Bitcoin Film Festival a unique opportunity. It brings a fresh type of content to the festival, presenting Bitcoin through humor and a smartly built plot in a dynamic, hilarious light, full of unexpected twists.
Shorts, pilots, and generative cinema
Also expect a few special blocks at BFF25 that mix video formats to feature completed episodes from brand-new productions, experimental shorts, and early-stage projects. Titles to look out for include:
-
BREAK FREE (Jefferson), SATOSHI: THE CREATION OF BITCOIN (Arthur Machado), STRANGE CURRENCIES (Lauren Sieckelmann and John McManus), and BITCOIN IS THE MYCELIUM OF MONEY (Satillionaire), exploring financial independence, traps of the fiat system, and a better future built on sound money. All four are under 5-minutes long, featuring dynamic storytelling, and an impressive, almost real-life feel – made with the help of AI.
-
FINDING HOME (Avi Burra), PARALLEL SPACE (Martin Piga), and THE LEGEND OF LANDI (Oswald Horowitz), bold stories from fresh projects that will hopefully soon bring more content to the table. The first is already released as a pilot episode of a series, think Anthony Bourdain-style with a Bitcoin vibe and a touch of philosophy. The last two are deeply thought-provoking, exploring alternative communities, rebellious systems, and mysterious narratives.
