Reddit community begins its mission to the .MOON
A new partnership brings web3 identity to millions of r/CryptoCurrency members without ongoing renewal fees

Reddit's r/CryptoCurrency community has taken one small step for man into the web3 space—mixing onchain digital identity with a celestial twist.
With a flourishing community of 8.8 million members, the thriving subreddit has become a hub for discussing trends, sharing knowledge, and exploring crypto innovations.
Now, it has gone further to offer even more web3 perks to its members. With these latest developments, millions of Redditors can get their own onchain digital identity through the new .MOON domain.
The r/CryptoCurrency community—which is backed by the Reddit-created and community-owned CryptoCurrency Moons (CCMOONS) DAO—has collaborated with Unstoppable Domains to launch the .MOON domain. This serves as the “first Reddit community-based Top-Level Domain (TLD),” as reported by Cryptonews.
Essentially, a TLD is all that comes after the final dot of a particular domain name. For instance, in “thecryptoradio.com,” the “.com” works as the TLD. Other common TLDs are .org and .edu.
In an X post, r/CryptoCurrency Moderators invited members to “join our mission to the .MOON!” adding that “Unstoppable Domains together with the CCMOON DAO, have launched .MOON domains designed to take your onchain identity to new heights.”
We just announced how you could win one of the following five @unstoppableweb .moon domains:

The community announced on Reddit that “whether you're exploring DeFi, diving into NFTs, gaming, or entering the metaverse, the .MOON domain unlocks a world of possibilities.” The press release also noted that the collaboration serves as a “major shift in how social media communities can establish their onchain presence.”
The subreddit has already made waves in the past—known for bolstering crypto adoption through the MOON governance token. Unlike other tokens, they allow holders to participate in on-chain decision-making, enabling them to vote on proposals, and influence a project's future.
While Reddit Admins developed MOON in May 2020, they halted their involvement in October 2023. Since then, the project has become independent and community-run.
John Murphy, the Treasurer of the MOON DAO, which stands for decentralized autonomous organization (a blockchain-based community that is not governed by a central authority), said: “We at r/cryptocurrency have always been focused on community empowerment, and launching .MOON domains is the next big step in that journey.
"Partnering with Unstoppable Domains allows us to expand beyond Reddit, making it easier for our 8.8 million users to establish digital identities and engage with the onchain ecosystem, while still maintaining the strong sense of community that defines r/CryptoCurrency.”
Now, all community members can purchase their customized .MOON domains and receive the associated benefits, including the ability to use the domain for their entire lifetime without having to worry about any renewal fees.
Unstoppable Domains shared on X that the domain would serve as “your onchain identity within the Moons community and the larger crypto world.”

The .MOON domain, which runs on the Polygon blockchain, will allow users to seamlessly integrate with more than 865 blockchain wallets and applications, enabling digital profile management across different platforms. It will also function as an easy-to-remember address for sending and receiving tokens, coins, and NFTs.
It may also boost the subreddit's brand by empowering members to become proactive ambassadors in the wider crypto world—with the domain working as a distinct identifier of their affiliations with the community.
Sandy Carter, the Chief Operating Officer of Unstoppable Domains, said: “Unstoppable Domains is committed to bringing a wide range of projects into our ecosystem… The vibrant r/cryptocurrency community can now extend its unique energy into the onchain domain space, moving beyond Reddit to engage new users across decentralized applications.”
The collaboration aligns with the global domain provider's mission to offer user-owned and secure digital identity solutions, with the .MOON domain serving as a crucial milestone in its exciting journey.
