Pass App’s Ann Marie Almariei and Josh Ben-David share how they’re making crypto easier for beginners

Your phone’s facial recognition can already unlock your device – but could it also secure your digital assets? That’s the idea behind Pass App, a new smart wallet that aims to make crypto more accessible while addressing security challenges.

Pass App’s Head of Marketing, Ann Marie Almariei, and CEO, Josh Ben-David, told The Crypto Radio about their approach to breaking down crypto’s biggest barriers. From replacing seed phrases with passkeys to integrating AI assistance, they hope to make digital assets less daunting for newcomers.

Tackling crypto complexity with humor

One of Pass App’s core missions is to make crypto more accessible by creating a space where users can learn, connect, and have fun. "We are an entertainment, educational and networking platform," said Almariei. "We are also the only, I would say, crypto comedy platform in the world thus far, anyways."

While humor is a key part of their approach, the goal is not just to entertain but to break down barriers to crypto adoption. The team believes these barriers stem mainly from two challenges: understanding and trust. "There's two major problems with mass adoption, right? So the one problem is that people don't understand it, and two people don't trust it," Almariei said.

By infusing humor into the experience, Pass App aims to create a space where newcomers don’t feel overwhelmed by technical jargon or pressured to invest right away. This approach is designed to foster a sense of community, allowing users to learn at their own pace without the fear of being judged or misled.

While crypto enthusiasts are often seen as insiders who already understand the landscape, the Pass App team wants to extend a hand to those who feel left out. Rather than focusing on hype and speculation, they’re encouraging users to explore digital assets through relatable and engaging content. This method helps dispel the notion that crypto is only for experts or those willing to take big risks.

Security without the hassle

One of Pass App’s most innovative features is its use of passkeys instead of traditional seed phrases. As Ben-David explained, "What a passkey is, essentially, is a key that your operating system – so iOS, Android – generates for you on your device, and it stores it in a specific Secure Enclave."

For many users, managing complex seed phrases has been one of the most intimidating aspects of using crypto wallets. Losing a seed phrase can mean losing access to funds forever, which adds pressure and anxiety to an already complex process. Passkeys, by contrast, leverage the existing security infrastructure of smartphones, which users are already familiar with.

Ben-David pointed out that the passkey system not only simplifies the onboarding process but also enhances security by taking human error out of the equation. Instead of writing down or memorizing a complicated string of words, users can let their device handle the protection. This balance between security and usability is crucial to encouraging more people to try crypto without feeling overwhelmed.

However, security is only one piece of the puzzle. The team also wants to make the app feel accessible and engaging from the start, which is where AI comes in. "In the next two to three weeks, we're launching AI agents inside of the wallet," Ben-David said. These AI agents are designed to act as personal guides, helping users understand crypto concepts and even offering advice on strategies like earning yield.

The AI integration also aligns with Pass App’s broader goal of making crypto feel less intimidating. By providing real-time support and breaking down complex topics into simple explanations, the AI agents can help users build confidence as they go.

Expanding beyond Ethereum

Pass App currently supports Ethereum-based networks, but the team has plans to broaden compatibility to include Solana and Bitcoin. This multi-chain support is a strategic move to ensure the platform appeals to users with different preferences and portfolios. Ethereum may dominate the space now, but the crypto landscape is evolving rapidly, and Pass App aims to keep pace by expanding its reach.

Ben-David shared that this expansion is part of their effort to future-proof the wallet as blockchain technology continues to evolve. By supporting multiple networks, Pass App aims to become a one-stop solution for users who hold various digital assets. The ability to manage different cryptocurrencies from a single interface could make the wallet particularly appealing to both newcomers and seasoned investors alike.

Pass App’s team is also committed to building a sense of loyalty among its users. To that end, they’ve launched Pass Perks – a rewards program that incentivizes engagement and community involvement. "Users can earn points for various actions, such as contributing to the community, participating in online transactions, and engaging in Discord discussions," Almariei explained.

The idea is to make users feel valued for their contributions, whether they're actively trading or just learning the ropes. Pass Perks points can be exchanged for NFTs and partner perks, creating a tangible benefit for participation. This kind of rewards system not only encourages activity but also fosters a sense of belonging in the Pass App community.

Making crypto feel human

One of the challenges in onboarding newcomers to the web3 world is bridging the gap between traditional internet users and blockchain-based applications. Pass App tackles this problem by presenting crypto through a more human lens. Instead of pushing technical expertise or speculative hype, they’re fostering a culture that prioritizes fun and community.

Almariei emphasized the importance of having a supportive environment for people who are curious about crypto but hesitant to jump in. "We create this kind of neutral space for people to be like, 'Hey, at the bare minimum, you don't like it, you at least get to laugh, right?'" she said. This philosophy underpins Pass App’s mission to reduce intimidation and increase accessibility.

The Pass App team gave a glimpse into how they stay grounded despite the fast pace of the crypto world. Ben-David talked about starting his day with exercise and reading physical books, while Almariei joked about needing caffeine to function and keeping up with the NFT community. It was a lighthearted moment that showed how they balance work and life.

As the crypto ecosystem becomes more crowded, Pass App hopes to stand out by putting people at the center of the experience. Rather than positioning itself as just another tool for trading, the platform is built around learning and engagement, with a focus on making users feel comfortable and informed.

Bridging the gap between web2 and web3

The Pass App team is acutely aware that many potential users are still cautious about venturing into crypto. The technical complexity, fear of losing funds, and the perception of a closed community can all serve as deterrents. By combining robust security features with AI-driven guidance and a dose of humor, Pass App aims to bridge that gap.

Ben-David summed up their vision: "Our vision, or part of our vision with with AI, is to become the number one destination for newcomers to learn about crypto." This statement underscores the platform’s commitment to making crypto not just safer but also more welcoming.

In a landscape where crypto wallets are often seen as intimidating, Pass App’s focus on entertainment and education sets it apart. Whether through its rewards program, user-friendly security measures, or approachable community culture, Pass App is carving out a niche that prioritizes understanding over speculation.

With plans to expand network support and introduce even more interactive features, Pass App could become a key player in shaping how people approach digital assets. As the platform evolves, its success may hinge on maintaining that balance between security, simplicity, and a human touch.
