The Netherlands: Europe’s next crypto hub?
Dutch investor shares insights on adoption, innovation, and Bitcoin’s potential

"If something comes easy, it goes away easy as well," warned Marc van Versendaal, a Bitcoin-centered entrepreneur based in the Netherlands.
As the host of the Dutch podcast Mark my Words, Van Versendaal has made it his mission to educate others about the transformative potential of Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies. He believes that true understanding and success with Bitcoin require effort, education, and a long-term perspective.
In a wide-ranging interview, Van Versendaal shared his insights with The Crypto Radio on adoption in Europe, his investment philosophy, and the challenges of onboarding newcomers to the world of digital assets.
What's happening in the Netherlands?
The country is emerging as a leader in European crypto adoption. "We are in the top three, if not the top one in Europe," Van Versendaal said. He attributes this to the country's history of entrepreneurship, dating back to the 1600s when the Dutch guilder was the global reserve currency.
This entrepreneurial spirit has carried into the digital age, with many Dutch people eager to experiment with cryptocurrencies. However, Van Versendaal pointed out that widespread acceptance remains elusive. "If I'm just walking outside and start talking about Bitcoin, no one is ready and no one is where I think they should actually be already," he laments.
Marc’s investment philosophy

Van Versendaal describes himself as a "freedom maximalist" rather than a Bitcoin maximalist. While he strongly believes in Bitcoin as the foundation of a new global monetary system, he doesn’t rely on it alone.
Instead, he diversifies his investments to include other assets, like gold, and focuses on areas that enrich his life, such as personal development and family well-being. "I'm also invested in myself, and in my health, and in my girls, you know, in my daughters," he explained. "And all my time and energy goes into things that I actually love doing."
Predictions for Bitcoin’s future
Van Versendaal envisions two possible scenarios for Bitcoin's price trajectory. If the US government creates a strategic Bitcoin reserve, he believes the cryptocurrency could reach as high as $280,000. If central banks take a more conservative approach to liquidity, he expects a gradual climb to the $150,000 to $160,000 range.
Regardless of the short-term price movements, Van Versendaal’s conviction in Bitcoin’s long-term prospects remains strong. "Everything that I want to build right now has to be centered around Bitcoin. Otherwise, I don't think it will have a place in the new world," he said.
Advice for beginners
For Van Versendaal, educating people about the true nature of money and the flaws in traditional financial systems is critical. "If you can actually answer that question, the younger you are that you are able to answer that question professionally and in depth, that's probably a big advantage for everyone".
He emphasizes that crypto adoption often begins with early enthusiasts, progresses to a store-of-value phase, and only later becomes a widely accepted medium of exchange. “Usually after 10-15 years people actually start to use it as a medium of exchange.”
With his passion and commitment, Van Versendaal is optimistic about the Netherlands’ role in the future of cryptocurrency. His work reflects a broader mission: equipping people with the knowledge to make informed financial decisions in a rapidly evolving digital economy.
