'We are so stupidly early to Bitcoin, it's ridiculous'
Oxford-educated rapper Zuby reflects on his first investment, lessons learned, and why the opportunity is far from over

Imagine discovering a "magic money printer"—that's exactly how British rapper Zuby felt when he first invested in crypto.
Zuby, a seasoned Bitcoin believer, says he’s more optimistic about the cryptocurrency than ever. "I've been in it for over seven years now, and I've never been as bullish as I am right now," he emphasized.
In an interview with The Crypto Radio at Bitcoin MENA in Abu Dhabi, Zuby detailed his journey from first hearing about Bitcoin in 2012 to becoming an advocate for its adoption.
Zuby’s introduction to Bitcoin was rooted in his background in computer science. "I studied at Oxford University, and so I've always been someone who's interested in computers, technology, the future, where the world is going. I've always had that intellectual curiosity," he explained.
But it wasn’t until 2017 that he began exploring Bitcoin seriously. "I had a friend who was making a lot of Facebook posts about Bitcoin, and he was particularly talking about how much his investments were going up in it. And I just kept seeing these posts on my Facebook newsfeed about Bitcoin. And one day came, sometime in November, where I was like, 'You know what? Let me look into this Bitcoin thing and just see what it's all about.'"
The first investment
After just an hour of research, Zuby made his first investment in November 2017. "Anyone who has been in the market for a while would know that that was coming towards the end of the 2016-2017 bull market. So I put some money in, and the following day, the number had gone up. And I was like, 'Oh, let me put more in,' and the number went up again. And I was like, 'Oh my gosh, I'm a genius. I've just discovered the magic money printer.'"
As the 2017 bull run transitioned into the bear market of 2018, Zuby’s enthusiasm didn’t waver. "I was in the hole for like, two years, but my conviction continued to grow. And every day my conviction in Bitcoin grows."
Zuby highlights the vast potential for wider adoption. "I just learned today that 97% of the world has no Bitcoin at all. 97% of Earth's population has nothing." For him, this statistic underscores the massive opportunity still ahead.
"So, for the people who think they're late, we are still so stupidly early that it's ridiculous," he added. Early adopters often benefit the most as technologies like Bitcoin gain broader acceptance, presenting significant opportunities for growth.
Bitcoin vs. gold: A key analogy
One of Zuby’s strongest arguments for Bitcoin’s potential is its ability to surpass gold as a store of value. "For Bitcoin to reach gold, that would put one Bitcoin at about $800,000-900,000, and I believe Bitcoin is going to far surpass gold over the next couple of decades ... 14 years."
He elaborates further by comparing Bitcoin to gold and altcoins to other metals. "Just like there's dozens and dozens of different types of metal out there. There's only gold. Gold is gold. Okay, so someone might be like, 'Oh, what about aluminum? What about titanium? What about copper?' Those have their use case in many situations, but gold remains gold. No metal is going to surpass gold."
"Bitcoin has a bigger market cap than silver now, I believe, but gold has, for over 2000 years, been the hardest form of money that exists." This historical perspective strengthens Zuby’s confidence in Bitcoin’s long-term potential.
While he sees Bitcoin and fiat currencies coexisting, Zuby remains skeptical of most other cryptocurrencies. "Long term, I see most of them going to zero. Okay, if people want to gamble, people are free to gamble. I'm not saying that there is no short-term money to be made on the entire crypto market. Of course there is, but there are 20,000 cryptos that are out there."
Advice for beginners
For newcomers to Bitcoin, Zuby’s advice is straightforward. "Do your due diligence. And manage your emotions and be wary of who you take advice from."
He stresses the importance of a long-term perspective. "Treat it like a savings account. Don't treat it like a quick flip. Don't treat it like gambling. Treat it like an asset."
Zuby believes that global adoption is still in its infancy. "In 10 years time, people are gonna be like, 'Oh my gosh, you bought Bitcoin under $100,000, you bought Bitcoin at only $200,000. Wow. You're so lucky.'"
The rapper's story offers a unique perspective, blending his tech-savvy background with years of real-world experience in the market. His message is clear: Bitcoin isn’t just an investment—it’s a redefinition of money and value.
By staying informed, managing emotions, and approaching crypto with patience, beginners can explore the immense potential of this revolutionary technology.
